Transparency, flexibility and automation, in that order

Accounting is about trust, and it’s hard to trust something you cannot see, prove and validate.  We learned that everything from ingesion & reconciliation (is my data complete) to categorization and journal entry creation (is my data accurate) or calculations need to be transparent to the user.  Getting something wrong “because AI did it” is not acceptable in an industry with criminal, civil and fiduciary liability to the company and it’s leadership.

While everyone, from accountants to founders, prefer most work to be automated, it first has to be transparent (”can I see what is happening?”) and flexible (”can I change, edit or fix what is happening?”) before it can be automated.
