What’s New at Puzzle (Bookkeeper Edition) - September 2024

We wanted to share 15 of the new features we have and will be shipping to make bookkeeping more accurate, faster, and hopefully more enjoyable on Puzzle. If you would like to see a sneak peak of any of these, let us know.

Top 5 things to make you faster 🚄

Command + K and keyboard shortcuts

Status: Live

Hit Cmd+K to get to where you need to go faster, without lifting your hands off the keyboard. We're continuing to add more and more shortcuts to help you get your work done more efficiently.

Performance improvements

Status: Live

  • Dashboard: Reduced average load time from 15s to 3s.
  • Transaction page: Added front-end caching, greatly reducing loading times.
  • Reconciliation page: Improved to efficiently handle up to 1,000 transactions at a time. No more timeouts.

Status: Continuously improving

  • Batch categorization and finalization
  • Search improvements: Search across vendors, descriptions, amounts (in testing)
  • Sorting of all columns (in testing)
  • Transaction details panel slides out instead of overlaying (in testing)
  • General UX improvements to help you get your work done more efficiently (in testing)

Bookkeeper-focused navigation improvements

Status: In progress - October '24

In addition to being able to leverage our new Command+K feature, you'll soon see a refreshed navigation structure to enable you to access the most common accounting workflows directly from the left sidebar. Access Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Reconciliations, Locked Periods, etc. far more efficiently than before.

Controllable automation settings

Status: In progress - October '24

We are adding controllable automation settings, where you can pick which bookkeeping processes you want to automate, and which processes you would like to do yourself.

Top 5 improvements to accounting workflows ⚖️

Stripe reconciliation reports

Status: Live

Generate a Stripe receivables account workpapers in Excel to reconcile your Stripe every month. We also added a smart notification to the Monthly Checklist if we detect an anomaly. See it on the reports page.

Improved invoices page

Status: Live

Added: Editable columns, filters, downloadable reports, and links to the original source (like Stripe or BILL), count and total, and quick button to add an invoice manually, including multiple line items and draft accrual schedules.

New vendors page and document retention

Status: In progress - September '24

Add, edit, modify and merge vendors, with improved 1099 tracking and document retention.  See it on the Vendors Page soon.

Advanced “cash application” for bills and invoices

Status: In progress - October '24

This is in user design testing, where we are expanding capabilities of applying cash beyond a 1:1 individual a bill or invoice to a vendor balance, bill or invoice, or GL account, in full or partial.

Editable Invoice & Bills

Status: In progress - October '24

You will be able to edit, add or manage your bills and invoices.  Fix fields, add more vendor or product information or context, or create line item accrual schedules.

We've improve the formatting of all financial statement exports.

We also have improvements across our integrations with Rippling (in testing), BILL Invoices (in testing), multiple Stripe accounts (in development), Bitwave Crypo (in development).
